They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but not many people know that Kellogg's actually came up with that phrase to market their cereal. Luckily for Kellogg's, every meal (and not just breakfast) is important here in Kuwait. We have multitudes of restaurants that are sprouting in the business world by the second, catering to just about every Kuwaiti need and desire - low fat, carb free, diabetes friendly; the list is endless. But when it comes to breakfast, how far will people go (or drive?) for a fulfilling morning feast? Ask Prime & Toast.
Surely, not everyone lives in the vicinity of Prime & Toast, and not everyone has a cosy restaurant that dishes out the best breakfast near their home. Yet, strangely enough, people (such as myself) will drive out from far away onto the expressway and down to Prime & Toast in Kuwait City for a pancake and some hash browns. (Insert mother's evil glare as she chows down her standard Kuwaiti breakfast)
OK, OK; it's not your average breakfast. Seriously. I'm all for the lazy mornings with the steaming mug of chay 7aleeb and Kraft cheese - no Kuwaiti home would be complete without it - but when you wake up on the right side of the bed and the sun is shining and your stomach is grumbling, chay 7aleeb and cheese sandwiches don't cut it for everyone. Especially when Mary has a tendency to scorch the edges of your fried eggs so much that it feels like you're eating a burnt eraser.
You guys are probably thinking, "Oh my God, here's another person glorifying the overrated Prime & Toast.", and I would hang my head in shame if I believed it was the least bit overrated - but it's not. So much, in fact, that my significant other once asked me if they were handing out free food because I frequent the place so much. Fluffy pancakes, omelettes to die for, hash browns and potato sides that would make any root-crop fanatic melt in pure bliss; what more could you ask for? Even the juice speaks for itself; it's not watered down like a lot of the restaurants do to preserve their produce. The portions are generous, the quality of food and produce is outstanding, and they're friendly as can be.
Everytime I visit Prime & Toast for breakfast, I can't do without my watermelon juice, Ricotta/blueberry pancakes, and of course, their incredible hash browns.
The juice is better than any 3a9eer Tha7ya or 3a9eer Keifan that I've ever had. It's perfectly chilled, sweet, and slushy - you can tell that it's honest-to-God watermelon with no crazy additives or sugar. The blueberry pancakes (always ask for extra blueberry compote on the side) are PERFECTION ON A PLATE. For those of you who are not familiar with cheese, Ricotta is actually very dense, but at the same time, quite fluffy. It has a salty ting to it which complements the sweet tart blueberries perfectly, and gives the pancake an airiness that Betty Crocker wouldn't know if it popped in her oven. Hash browns? Grated potato with a delicious herby kick fried till it's golden brown and crispy, but still so soft on the inside that it practically melts in your mouth? NEED I SAY MORE?
Not only is their food great, but they have so much variety! The sandwiches are fantastic; I've tried almost all of them and I can safely say that I've NEVER been disappointed.
But breakfast is a whole other story. So, go on. Make the person who thought of Kellogg's' crazy slogan a happy man. Ditch the chay 7aleeb and baq9am for one day, revv up your engines and drive out to Prime & Toast for breakfast, if you haven't already. May I suggest my usual breakfast, and if you're not a pancake person, the Farmer's omelette or the Cheese omelette is your new best friend.

Giving your tastebuds a run for their money,

John Mac - Prime & Toast is located opposite the Seif Palace on the Gulf Road. On the same strip, you'll find The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Slider Station, Burger Hub, and the Pink Moon boutique. If you go up the Gulf Road and reach the Grand Mosque roundabout and keep heading straight, you'll find it on your left. Take the next U-Turn and you'll find it. Hope that helped!

John Mac - Thank you for your comment. As a recent graduate I can tell you that this is 100% true. I've always worked my schedule around so that I give myself an hour to relax and enjoy a decent breakfast. I've met way too many people that fuel their day with Double-shot Espressos and you can see them jittering and fidgeting in class all the time. Teach your students about the importance of breakfast and good food! :P

I'm a teacher and it's noticeable that kids' behaviour is related, alarmingly, to early morning diet. The ones who don't eat something in the morning are slow, dull and vacuous, whereas if they get their hands on Coke later in the day, the effect is quite dramatic and learning suffers.
