Dear Friends,
The national currency is a matter of pride & honor for any nation. It is the identity for a nation. Does not any tampering with it amount to the contempt and disrespect of it's honor? That is what the hardworkers get at the end of the day for their labor.
I would like to highlight, the KEMS “Half on you, half on us” that was there in the newspapers and also on their website. What struck me is that it features a 1 KD note which is “purposefully torn” into two parts (not split artistically, as the ad people normally do).
Certainly, a national currency deserves much more respect than that. It is common sense that, intentionally tearing up any currency (all currencies are legal tenders of their countries) and publishing it, amounts to no less than a public crime. I am sure that there are certain rules of the Central Bank, which definitely say that the currency notes need to handled with utmost grace and not shown any disrespect (by tearing it, scribbling on it, etc).
The agency which designed the ad has shown poor “creativity”. Someone said that since they did not tear the actual note, but was a computer trick (photoshopped). Whatever be it, the idea of tearing the national currency was “improper”. There is no creativity maligning a currency note. It is downright gross of even the thought of degrading/ mutilating / tearing the national currency (a national symbol & a national identity). There was no need to play around with the national currency to highlight the offer details (50% off). We need to respect it fully. It is what you get paid with as compensation for your labor.
I am shocked that there are no voices of dissent for this disgrace; leave aside any protests. I am sure that all Kuwaiti’s are proud of their currency (it is the highest valued currency of the world)? Then why are they silent on this gross “dishonor”.
Well everything said and done, I feel that such a “disgrace” of one of the national symbols of Kuwait (in the name of “creativity”), should be vociferously condemned.
